Reader Suggestion that inspired this one: Give Walker all the babies to take care of (girlfriend's kids, adopted kids, family member leaves him a kid, club girl gets pregnant with his kid). You guys wanted to see Walker saddled with a bunch of kids, so here you go! Thank you to the following readers for your suggestions: Autumn, Melissa, Tina, Peggy, and Angela.
"I know you're happy with Smoke, but does it ever hurt you think about Walker moving on or..."
"Or having kids with someone else when he couldn't give them to me?" I asked Jewel. She and I didn't really have the greatest relationship when we first me, but as she started to settle down and find her footing as Phoenix's old lady instead of a club girl, she began to grow on me.
"Yeah. Sorry, I know that isn't a very sensitive question. The thing is, I'm not sure if I can have kids and I don't know how to deal with what Phoenix might think about that. What if he wants to run out and get someone else pregnant?" Jewel shivered at the thought. "I don't think there's anyway I could have a surrogate involved, which means no biological children for us."
"That's a tough thing to think about, honey. It is something you're going to have to discuss with him, preferably with a doctor in the mix to tell you both exactly what is going on, your chances, and your options for the future."
"Yeah, I figured. So, out of curiosity..."
"Honestly, I had these horrible nightmares when Walker and I first split up. I don't have them anymore, because I am happy with Smoke and we've started our own family. Still, they were awful, heartbreaking, and a huge part of the reason I decided to leave Georgia and come to West Virginia. I knew it would be too much to see him in the same small town as me, possibly being a father to someone else's kids when he couldn't give me my own. It would have been the worst kind of pain I could imagine back then. So this is how the nightmare that made my decision to move away went...
Poppy's Nightmare
I stood there in the grocery store parking lot with my heart in my throat as I came to terms with what I was seeing. There had been rumors that reached my ears. There were rumors that I didn't exactly pay heed to when I should have. If I had taken them seriously, I might not have felt like someone had stabbed me with about twenty different blades all at once.
Walker stood there, in front a minivan of all things, helping to load three small children and a baby into the damn thing. His motorcycle was nowhere in sight, which was weird. There was no way my exhusband was driving around in a minivan. Absolutely, no...
Walker slid the door closed, leaned down to kiss the barely-clothed, perky blonde woman by his side and then moved around the van to go get into the driver's side.
"What the fuck?" I asked out loud. There shouldn't have been a response as I'd been shopping alone, but then a woman's snotty tone came from somewhere behind me.
"That bastard is out with Georgette again. She's such a whore."
I spun around to see another of the club girls standing there. "What does it matter to you?"
"One of those kids he just put in Whore Barbie's minivan is mine."
"Why does Walker have one of your kids?"
"Because a DNA test confirmed that he's the daddy."
"What?" I yelped. That couldn't be right. My hand went to my heart as I clutched just above the damn thing to keep it from beating right out of my own chest. "That's not possible."
"Oh, it's possible all right. My four-year old girl is his."
"No. The doctors said he couldn't have kids."
"They must have lied to you then because all but one of those kids he just stuffed into that van are Walker's. The other one, the infant, was his sister's. When she overdosed, they brought the baby to Walker as her next of kin."
"Walker doesn't have a sister."
"Yeah, that's what he thought too. Turns out his dad was running around knocking women up outside of his marriage too. Like father, like son, right?" She laughed, but I didn't find a damn thing funny about any of it. "Anyway, he is now the proud Uncle-Daddy of his sister's baby, my daughter, Shanna's two-year-old son, and the twins with Tanya. The twins are newborns, and Tanya won't let him take them by himself yet. The other kid he stuffed in the van ain't his. That one belongs to Georgette - the blonde he has with him. I don't think he's Walker's kid though. Pretty sure he belongs to one of the other brothers who won't claim him."
"You're telling me that Walker fathered four children, is taking in his sister's infant child, and apparently a kid his current girlfriend has?"
"Yup. Wild isn't it?"
"You also just admitted to cheating and getting knocked up by a man who was my husband when you got pregnant with your kid," I screeched at her.
The woman held her hands up in her defence. "You know the deal. We don't ask questions at the club. If a brother wants to fuck, we fuck. We don't exactly get to say no just because he's married. He didn't treat you like his old lady, never brought you around the club, and you guys didn't wear one another's ink. If you had, maybe we could have refused on the grounds of not wanting to get our asses handed to us by his old lady, but you weren't his old lady."
"I was his old lady first and then his wife."
"Honey, I hate to tell you this, but no one at that clubhouse saw you as his old lady, at least not in the past five or six years. Maybe they did before I showed up, but not after." She shrugged her shoulders. "Anyway, be glad you got out of that situation when you did and that you never had kids with him. I can't even get him to pay me the $200 a month in child support he's supposed to cough up. That's why I left Shayna with him last week. He needs to know those kids aren't cheap."
"Wait, you left your daughter with my ex-husband because he won't pay child support and you thought it would teach him a lesson?" I asked, still stunned by everything I'd learned.
"Yep."
"When did you find out that Walker fathered your daughter?" My stomach knotted up as I wondered if he'd known all along and hid the fact that he was a father from me.
She shrugged. "I knew it was a possibility as soon as I found out I was pregnant. He kept saying he couldn't get you pregnant, and that it was impossible. After I had all the other assholes take a test, I finally grabbed some of his hair and took it in for testing against Shayna's DNA. He came back as 99.999% the daddy."
"When did you find out, and when did you tell him?"
The woman looked at me with pity in her eyes. "I found out when she was a little over a year old and I told Walker when she was two because I needed help financially."
"He knew, even when we were still married and supposedly trying for a baby, that he had fathered a child with you?" I asked, my voice dropping on the last word as disbelief settled deep into my bones.
"I really am sorry, honey. It's not right what he did to you. It's not right how he won't take responsibility financially for the kids he has. Then again, he's always so busy, he can't really get away to go on club runs because no one will watch the kids for him. I think that's why he hooked up with Georgette, so he can leave them all with her and go make some scratch. Too bad for Walker, Whore Barbie likes to snort his money away the minute he turns his head. No telling who is actually watching those kids when he's gone.
"Wow, I guess considering the situation you were in back then, that would have been one hell of a nightmare. Did it always just end like that?" Jewel asked when I pulled myself back out of the retelling.
I shook my head. "Sometimes, it ended with him and his club whore girlfriend going to jail for child negelct and endangerment. Sometimes, I would picture him with even more kids running him ragged and draining his bank account dry until he drank himself to death."
Jewel laughed.
"The one time I woke up after having dreamed that the children were all left with me after he adn his women were in a fire when the clubhouse burned down, I knew it was time to get the hell out of Sierra High before I went crazy."
"You poor thing. I know they were only dreams, but that is horrible to deal with."
I glanced around the clubhouse and noticed Smoke staring at me with a concerned look on his face. When I offered him a genuine smile, he went back to talking to Surfer while keeping Brantley occupied.
"It all worked out for the best for me," I managed to reassure myself and Jewel at the same time.
"I suppose it did," she agreed. "You know, I never slept with him when I was a club girl," I she insisted. "He had a girlfriend back then and he would never go there with me."
I turned to eye the woman and felt just as bad for her past as she probably did mine. Her own mother, knowing that her father was a club member, sent her to be a club whore for Aces High MC. Thankfully, she refused to hook up with the older men, but she worked at the club for quite a while before it was ever determined who fathered her.
"Do you think you can ever forgive him - your ex?"
"Going through it all sucked, but I'm glad it turned out the way it did. I'm happier now. I wouldn't trade those experiences for the world because it taught me to appreciate what I have and it set me up to be in the right place, at the right time to connect with the man I was meant to be with."
Jewel smiled at me. "That's how I look at it too. It sucked to know my own dad saw me do some pretty awful things when I was a club girl, but being here led me to Phoenix, and I'd never change that for anything. Still..." She hesitated on the last for a minute before continuing. "If you ever want to know what happened to Walker after you left, I could find out for you."
I shook my head. "Nope. Whatever happened to him isn't my business. I hope he finds happiness one day, and my vivid dreams of things that have happened to him are enough to keep me warm at night. Did I ever tell you the one about the sexually transmitted diseases?" I teased.
"Ew! I don't want to hear tht one again. You're a little bit warped, Poppy."
"Maybe so, but I'm a lot happy and that's all that really matters."
NOTE: These musings are not things that really happened to/with Walker. They're just fantasies conjured by Poppy in the aftermath of their relationship crumbling. Try not to hold them against Walker when his book comes out. 😉
